Manchester’s iconic Media City is set to host VSI’s third global summit for Executive Directors. Industry power brokers, elite northern powerhouse business leaders and politicians will descend on the city’s cutting edge technology hub on September 12 to debate strategic leadership of a global sporting city. Sport is cut deep in the Manchester’s DNA. Its two footballing giants need no introduction while British cycling is proud to be housed in the spectacular velodrome. Old Trafford Cricket ground, home of Lancashire CC is one of the truly great Test arenas in the world. The event will take Manchester’s success as a case study from which delegates can learn about strategic leadership from a contemporary/real world perspective. It all started in 2008 when the Carrington training centre was not fit for purpose at Manchester City, Platt Lane was too small for the modern day academy and the land in East Manchester and its stadium needed regeneration and development ….but who thought this might lead to inspiring Las Vegas to become the capital of sports in the USA. Garry and Nick will tell the story of how a well thought out vision became a reality.

Garry Cook, Senior Global Sporting Director

Garry Cook is a British sports executive, having worked for Manchester City between 2008 and 2011 and Nike between 1996 and 2008. Cook as the Global Brand and International development officer for the UFC was part of the management team involved in the recent sale to WME/IMG for $4bn

Nick Smith, Senior Global Sporting Director

Nick Smith - Born in South Africa, a Director and key leader of the Pro Leisure group. Responsible for the MCFC infrastructure projects and the UFC MMA performance institute.
